Event Details

The demand for technology-savvy entrants in the workplace is growing three times faster than all other occupations, while enrollment in colleges of engineering is declining - particularly among women.

In an effort to change the current perception of engineering and technology fields among girls, SWE Atlanta is hosting a summer camp for high school juniors & seniors to expose them to prominent Atlanta companies. Attendees will visit a different company each Tuesday for 6 weeks, starting on June 9, 2009 and ending July 21, 2009.

SWE Atlanta has coordinated with several Atlanta companies to give high school girls an opportunity to meet women engineers and technologists and hear first-hand about their exciting career paths in these large Atlanta companies. These women will lead activities and the girls will be able to experience the creativity and innovation that goes on in the field of engineering first hand. This year's companies are:

  • Siemens

  • StreetSmarts

  • Southern Company

  • Georgia Tech Women In Engineering

  • Skanska

  • Kimberly-Clark

Note: The above list does NOT represent the order in which attendees will visit companies. Parents will recieve weekly e-mails with information regarding the next Tuesday visit, including the company to be visited, times, directions, etc.

Participants will shadow female engineers in their work environment, do hands on projects related to that particular field, and learn about 6 different industries.  By the end of the camp, they will have a good understanding of these businesses.  SWE Summer Camp will look great on college applications!

Sign up now.  Registration closes May 29, 2009.
